A very big THANK YOU to everyone who donated to the GK Hope Village School Appeal. Thanks to the generous donations of family, colleagues and friends, I sent off a cheque for AU$2,750 in February 2010.
The progress of construction is illustrated in the following series of photos, kindly sent to me by friends who are involved in the project on the ground:
Site Plan for the proposed School at GK Hope Village in Talisay

3D Design for the proposed School
Construction underway - Feb 2010

Roof on - March 2010
Painting - July 2010
Following my initial commitment to raise AU$6,000, a Canadian company pledged their commitment to fund the construction of the shell of the 2 classroom school. So, it was decided, that the money I had raised so far would be sent across to fund the interior finishes and furniture for 1 classroom, and the Canadian Volunteer I was undertaking the project with, is funding the other classroom. The AU$2,750 (or PHP100,000) will fund the following:
- 1 Blackboard
- 2 Bookshelves
- 50 Tables and chairs
- 1 Teacher's table and chair
- Window curtains and accessories
- Toilet and bathroom fixtures
- 1 Ceiling fan
- Rubber matting
- Interior props
- Ceiling cornices
- shelves/med cabinet
- 1 6 seater browsing table
- garbage bin
- water dispenser
- weighing scale
- interior painting works
Final completion is anticipated very soon. The Mayor of Talisay City has committed to funding the salary of a teacher.
